Can any student benefit from an internship? Yes! Many students believe that an intern’s responsibilities include getting coffee and doing other errands. Not these internships. These internships come with a Learning Agreement to ensure that the student gains valuable knowledge about a potential career and the workforce. It looks great on your resume, too!
Who is eligible? Interns must be enrolled in an undergraduate, technical or high school educational program, be between the ages of 16-24, have two references (one employer, one teacher/counselor) and maintain a GPA of 75% (2.5 on a 4.0 scale) or better. They must also live inOntario, Seneca, Wayne or Yates county either part or full-time. Additionally, the ideal candidates will have had at least some previous work experience and access to reliable transportation (pref. own car & license).
Where are the internships? Participating employers are located within the four county region; Ontario, Seneca, Wayne or Yates.
What do they pay? At least minimum wage ($7.25 per hour) is paid by the employer.
How long is an internship? Minimum 120 hours; about 20 hours/wk. for 6 weeks, although they do not have to be consecutive weeks. This schedule is very flexible.
Will these internships count for course credit? We partner with secondary and post secondary schools so that internships can sometimes count for class credit if course rules apply. If you desire a college credit-bearing internship, departmental approval must be obtained prior to the start of an internship and in coordination with semester dates.
What is the Learning Agreement? The Learning Agreement ensures the internship is of value to both parties, it is a document that outlines the goals for the intern, so that he or she gains valuable knowledge about a potential career and the workforce while at the worksite.
