There are SEVERAL reasons to hire an intern! Companies like IEC, Clear Momentum, Optimax and Interlakes Orthpaedic have used our interns, and they know the value and the experience the student gains in an internship. Here are just a few reasons to hire one of our talented candidates:

Begin training your future workforce!

More than fifty percent of interns return after graduation as full-time employees to the company where they interned! (source: National Association of Colleges and Employers)

Interns can complete project work and increase your organization's productivity.
Interns are highly motivated and want to produce quality work. They bring the latest technology to your business and they can easily complete those 'back burner' projects that every organization has.

Internships are cost effective!
Interns are typically much less expensive than comparable staff; Finger Lakes Internship Program interns must be paid a minimum wage of only $7.25/hr.

Internships improve your reputation and exposure in the local business community.
They can have a positive impact on the retention of college graduates and skilled workers in our Finger Lakes workforce (reduce 'Brain Drain').

                                                                 FAQ:

What if we have never hired an intern?
The Internship Coordinator will assist in the creation and maintenance of an effective internship in order to meet the needs of the employer and the student. It is a simple and 'user friendly' program.

How long is an internship?
The average length of an internship is 120 hours; a minimum of $7.25/hr, usually 20 hours per week, for 6 weeks. However, this schedule is very flexible.

What are my responsibilities?
As described in the Employer Agreement, the Internship Coordinator will assist you in developing a job description and designating an on-site supervisor/mentor.  You are required to comply with NYS labor laws, provide workers’ compensation coverage, maintain time sheets and payroll records, pay the employee, and complete a final evaluation form.

How do I hire an intern?
The Internship Coordinator will process applications, screen, reference and match applicants with employer and program needs.  The employer will then hold interviews and make the final hiring decision(s).
